There will be no bin collections in Bristol on Saturday because of Storm Darragh. A rare red warning is in place for the region from 3am till 11am on Saturday morning, with severe disruption expected.
Ahead of the storm, Bristol Waste Company has confirmed there will be no collections at all tomorrow. Services are expected to return to normal on Sunday.
Bristol Waste Company said in a statement: “Due to the red weather warning in the region (danger to life) Bristol Waste’s household services will be pausing on Saturday 7 December. This includes Refuse (general waste) and recycling collections (and) household Reuse and Recycling Centres including Reuse Shops will be closed.
“If you are waiting for a refuse and recycling collection, please bring your bins, bags and boxes off the street after 9pm on Friday. This will help keep your neighbourhood safe and stop your boxes from blowing away or being damaged.
“Our services will resume on Sunday 8 December. If you are waiting for a refuse or recycling collection, please put your bins and boxes out Saturday evening and before 6am Sunday and encourage your neighbours to do the same.
“Our street cleansing service will not run Saturday morning but is due to resume Saturday afternoon (subject to weather conditions). Thank you for your patience, we appreciate your support in keeping our crews, you and your neighbours safe.
“Residents can find further info on Bristol Waste’s social media channels.” During Storm Darragh, flying debris and falling trees could pose a risk to life, while large waves and beach material could be thrown on to coastal roads and seafronts.
There could also be damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down, as well as power cuts affecting other services such as mobile phone coverage.
Roads, bridges and railway lines may be closed, with delays and cancellations likely to bus, train and ferry services and flights. The fourth named storm of the season is also expected to bring heavy rain over the weekend, with more than 100 flood warnings and alerts in place across the UK.
