The company behind Guinness has confirmed that, despite news of supply limitations in Great Britain, Northern Ireland will be unaffected over Christmas.

Reports emerged this week that pubs and other venues in the UK had to ration their supply of the famous stout, as demand had outpaced supply.

Workers at pubs in Belfast on Thursday reported that they had not encountered any issues, with some sceptical as to whether the news was a marketing strategy by Diageo, the company that owns Guinness.

However the company confirmed on Friday that NI lovers of the drink have nothing to fear, as any supply shortages are not being felt on the island of Ireland.

It is understood that demand for Guinness has grown sharply over recent weeks and months, and as a result the company is managing supplies more stringently.

However business is operating much more in line with expectations in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

A Diageo spokesperson said: “Over the past month we have seen exceptional consumer demand for Guinness in GB.

“We have maximised supply and we are working proactively with our customers to manage the distribution to trade as efficiently as possible’’

A Diageo Ireland spokesperson clarified that this will not impact supplies on the island synonymous with the famous drink.

“As we move into the busy Christmas period, we will make all deliveries to our customers across the island of Ireland, as planned and without disruption’’.
