A cleaning guru has shared some top tips for reducing the mess of pine needles during the festive season. Homeaglow, a home cleaning service provider, recommends creating a clear pathway when bringing the tree indoors to avoid knocking off needles.

The firm also suggests placing the Christmas tree in a cool spot and watering it occasionally to maintain its freshness and colour. Positioning the tree in a low-traffic area can also minimise accidental disturbances.

Being proactive in preventing needle shedding and managing the space around the tree can simplify the clean-up process. When it comes to tidying up fallen needles, vacuum attachments are crucial, but care should be taken not to roll over the needles to prevent damage to the vacuum cleaner.

Instead, regularly empty the bag or canister, attach the crevice tool, and vacuum from the edges towards the centre. Lint rollers can be handy for quick spot cleaning, particularly on upholstery or carpets where needles may get stuck.

Remember to use a fresh, sticky layer, start from the outer edges and work towards the middle, and dispose of used layers correctly. You’ll be able to find a 12-pack of lint rollers from retailers like Amazon for £8.99, making each one work out at just 75p, reports the Express.

Duct tape can also be used for isolated needle spots by wrapping it around your hand with the sticky side out, and experts recommend a rubber broom as an essential tool for tackling the mess in larger areas, particularly for sweeping up those stubborn pine needles.

After gathering them into a tidy heap, you can then use a dustpan or vacuum to dispose of them.

These practical suggestions aim to guarantee a pristine home, enhancing the Christmas spirit and allowing for more quality family time instead of worrying about the seasonal shedding.

“Trying to reduce the number of pine needles that fall to the ground is the best way of keeping your home clean and looking less like a forest floor,” the expert advised.
