Sky has unveiled a new TV package as part of a major shake-up of its plans. The provider has just launched its Essential TV bundle, which includes Netflix, Discovery+ and full access to more than 100 channels such as Sky Atlantic for £15 per month.
This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen from the company, even beating the £19 price that was available for Black Friday. This deal is available for those willing to switch to a new Sky Stream box, Sky’s new device that uses the internet rather than a satellite dish to deliver content to your TV, reports the Express.
Sky Stream also offers features including personalised recommendations, easy access to streaming apps and a smart playlist function for storing content. However, some channels – including Sky Max, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, Sky Showcase and Sky Witness – are not included in the Essential TV bundle.
To gain full access to these additional channels, users can sign up for Sky’s Ultimate TV bundle, which now costs £22 per month – down from £26. This more premium package also offers channels such as U&alibi, Comedy Central, U&GOLD and National Geographic.
Ben Case, Managing Director of Sky TV, expressed his enthusiasm about the new offering: “We’re excited to share our world-class TV experience with even more people, at an everyday low price with Sky Essential TV. Our new TV pack makes it easier than ever to get the biggest and best shows from Sky, Netflix and discovery+ all in one place, just in time for the Christmas TV season.”
If you’re curious about Sky Stream, you can read a comprehensive review from our sister site the Daily Express here. Here are five key points about Sky Stream:
- A robust broadband connection is necessary for optimal performance – ideally 50Mbps or above.
- The device is designed for easy self-installation, so there’s no need for an engineer’s visit.
- Shows can be stored for later viewing through the online Playlists feature, although there is no hard disk inside.
- It comes with pre-installed apps such as Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+.
- Unfortunately, if your broadband service is interrupted, you won’t be able to watch TV since all content is streamed.
If you want a TV as well as a streaming box then don’t forget that Sky also has its Sky Glass telly which gets all the features of Stream along with a 4K display and built-in soundbar, with prices now starting from £29 per month. Elsewhere, shoppers can still benefit from Virgin Media’s Black Friday sale, which runs until December 8.
Virgin customers can currently save up to £255 on a range of plans that include more than 200 TV channels – including Sky Cinema and Sky Sports – and broadband with speeds up to 1,130Mbps, as well as three months of free Disney+.
