Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been given a five-year non-harassment order and fined £600 for breaching bail conditions.

The 32-year-old pled guilty last month to a domestic abuse charge again his estranged wife, Gillian.

He also admitted breaching bail conditions by repeatedly trying to contact her back in June.

The court previously heard how Hogg berated Gillian for ‘not being fun’ and engaged in a course of conduct which caused her fear or alarm over a five-year period.

It was also said how Hogg repeatedly shouted and swore at his wife while they lived together in Hawick as well as Exeter.

Hogg has now been given a five-year non-harassment order by Sheriff Peter Paterson at Jedburgh Sheriff Court as well as being fined £600 with an additional £40m victim surcharge.

Sheriff Paterson also deferred sentencing on the domestic abuse charge to see if Hogg would be able to complete a rehabilitation course remotely as he’s currently playing rugby in France.

He said: “There is a difficulty with that and that is that you are a non-resident of the UK.

“I cannot impose that at the moment.

“I’m not prepared to defer that till March when you may be returning.

“So I will defer sentence until January 9 for clarification about whether I can impose a community order with supervision to be monitored remotely.”

Hogg, who was capped 100 times for Scotland, also monitored his wife’s movements through her ‘Find My Phone’ app after their split in 2023.

The court previously heard how Hogg once sent more than 200 text messages in the space of just a few hours.

The former British & Irish Lions star announced his intentions to retire from professional rugby last year after the World Cup.

But he reversed his decision a few months later and signed a two-year contract with Montpellier this summer.
