Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane and Arsenal legend Ian Wright engaged in a heated exchange during The Overlap’s watch-along of Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The pair clashed whilst discussing Arsenal’s 2-0 win, alongside fellow pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.

The tension was palpable given Keane and Neville’s United connections, while Wright’s Arsenal allegiance added further spice to the commentary.

Arsenal secured a convincing 2-0 victory with second-half goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba.

The result helped Mikel Arteta’s side close the gap on league leaders Liverpool to seven points.

For Manchester United, the defeat saw them drop to 11th place in the Premier League table.

The match had been billed as the first major test of the Ruben Amorim era at United, but the Red Devils were thoroughly outplayed at the Emirates.

Keane’s frustration boiled over during the match as he lambasted his former team’s performance.

“Honestly that is c**p,” the former United captain fumed on The Overlap. “If that was Fulham or Wolves playing like that we would be criticising them. F***ing rubbish.”

When Jamie Carragher pointed out that Fulham were actually above United in the table, Keane retorted: “You know what I mean, if they were giving the ball away as cheaply as that we would be saying they are average.”

Neville added: “This is getting messy this. United are dead now, they have gone.”

The tension escalated when Wright taunted United’s current status, saying: “We have been very patient with a mid-table team that have come and frustrated us.”

This comment visibly riled Keane, who questioned Wright’s maturity: “Can I ask you what age are you? You’re a grandfather. Sitting there going ‘you’re a mid table team’. Show some class.”

Wright defended his stance, responding: “I’m a fan. It’s got nothing to do about class. Was Jamie showing class? (during the Liverpool game).”

“Absolutely not,” Keane replied.

Wright then turned to the other pundits, remarking: “You know what it is, you can only go to a certain amount with the United boys.”

Both teams return to action this weekend, with United hosting Nottingham Forest on Saturday, while Arsenal travel to Fulham on Sunday.
