The Met Office has issued a new 12-hour weather warning, following its 39-hour warning of rain and wind, set to batter the country this weekend. Forecasters are predicting that strong gusty winds could wreak havoc along the north coast of Somerset and across Bristol.

The new yellow weather warning is in place from 3pm today, Thursday, December 5, until 3am tomorrow. The Met Office has warned that winds could hit speeds of up to 70mph in exposed coastal areas, and heavy localised showers could hit as well.

Coastal communities should be prepared for potential impacts from sea spray and large waves. The weather is also expected to cause delays across road, rail, and ferry services. There is a chance of brief power outages throughout the duration of the weather alert too, reports Devon Live.

Residents in the impacted regions have been cautioned to “take care” during the weather warnings. People in the warning areas have been told: “The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for strong and gusty winds for the north of the county starting today at 3pm until 3am on Friday 6th December. Please take extra care when travelling in the affected areas.”
