The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has highlighted 87 conditions that could qualify certain people for extra payments worth up to £798 a month. Applications are open for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), a benefit offered by the DWP to those affected by long-term health conditions or illnesses. With an average processing time of 15 weeks for new PIP claims, applications submitted now could be processed and back payments issued by February 2025. This includes musculoskeletal conditions, including the 87 conditions specified by the DWP below.

PIP payments are made up of two parts: a daily living component, which you can claim if you need help with everyday tasks, and a mobility component, which you can claim if you have difficulty moving around. The amount of PIP allowance you may be entitled to depends on whether you’re eligible for the daily living or the mobility components of the DWP assessment.

For the daily living component, the lower rate is £72.65 a week and the higher rate is £108.55 a week. For the mobility component, the lower rate is £28.70 a week and the higher rate is £75.75 a week.

This means you can claim up to a maximum of £184.30 a week if you get both higher rates, or £737.20 every four-week pay period, the equivalent of £798.63 a month.

You can apply for the benefit online, by post or over the phone, by calling 0800 917 2222.
