Research by consumer group Which? has unveiled the UK’s cheapest supermarket. The UK’s consumer champion found that Aldi was yet again the cheapest supermarket for a basket of 55 essential items this month.

The total price of a weekly shop at the discount retailer came in at £97.89 – less than all of the supermarkets. It was the 13th month in a row that a budget supermarket had taken the crown.

The weekly shop price was £10.56 cheaper than Tesco, and £14.17 cheaper than Sainsbury’s. Waitrose was the most expensive, where the price gap was a huge £25.43. The research found that Aldi was still the cheapest, even when various loyalty cards and schemes were taken into account.
