Presenter and author Fearne Cotton is set to undergo surgery after discovering two tumours on her jaw. The star told of her health battle just weeks after her pal Davina McCall shared she was undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumour.
She said she has been told the “growing” lumps are benign – non-cancerous – and thanked friend Davina for her support. Posting on Instagram the presenter, who began her career with GMTV at the age of just 15, said she was lucky Davina was a good mate and a “beacon of light and positivity” as she dealt with the health blow.
And she urged people to always get lumps checked out as they could need treatment. In a video posted to her Instagram page, Fearne told her 3.9m followers: “I felt a lump under my ear on my jawline a while ago now but this year noticed it was growing.
“Turns out it’s a benign tumour and another small one above it on the saliva gland. I’m feeling positive about it all and will take the opportunity to rest and slow right down.
“If you feel a lump or bump or feel like something is a bit off, always go get it checked. I’m so glad I did as the longer you leave these things the more complicated things become.”
Writing of her friend Davina she commented: “It’s obviously so weird that only a couple of months ago Davina told me about her tumour and then weeks later I was calling her having discovered mine. I’m not only lucky she’s a bloody good mate but also a beacon of light and positivity when it comes to this stuff. Sending you all loads of love and I’ll see you soon.”
Speaking in a video accompanying the post she said her podcast, The Happy Place – would continue as there were plenty of pre-recorded episodes. But she did warn her Instagram followers that she wouldn’t be on the social media site as much over the next couple of weeks as a result of the operation.
Pointing to her neck she said: “I’ve got a benign tumour just in my jaw here below my ear. Another little tiny one above it. I’m very grateful they’re benign but they do need to come out cos they’re on a nerve.
“So I’m going to have that surgery then I’m going to be resting to get better before Christmas. I’m not very good at resting so wondering how that’s going to go but I’m feeling ok about it. I’m going into the operation feeling good and well.
“I’m going to catch up on lots of TV while I’m out the other side of it. The podcast will carry on as normal. I’ll be doing all the regular stuff, I’ve banked a load of good episodes that will still be rolling out and I’ll see you soon.”
Former Big Brother presenter and The Masked Singer panellist Davina, is recovering from surgery on a “very rare” colloid cyst – believed to only affect three out of one million people. She told fans last month of how she had been diagnosed and was preparing to have the operation.
Last week the 57-year-old gave an update saying she was feeling “much better” after having the 14mm growth removed. She had initially told of how the surgery had left her with memory loss but said she was seeing a major improvement.”
