The UK is bracing for a wet and windy weekend as a 39-hour weather warning has been issued. Forecasters at the Met Office have warned of strong winds and heavy rain from 3pm on Friday, December 6 until 6am on Sunday, December 8.

The weather warning covers the entirety of England and Wales and parts of southern Scotland. The Devon-based forecasters have said that there will likely be disruption to travel, with difficult driving conditions possible.

A front of low pressure is expected to bring a period of strong wind and heavy rain. Some areas further north may even see snow.

Winds are expected to reach 50mph but locally may reach 60mph. Some coastal areas may even see winds close to 80mph.

There is a chance that homes and building may flood and sustain damage through the warning period. Power cuts may affect some areas also.

The Met Office has said there is a small chance that the weather will cut off communities, and flooding and flying debris might pose a risk to life.

Weather warnings can change as more the weather fronts move. However, people have been advised to prepare in advance.
