A 41-year-old man was allegedly impaired and in possession of a loaded gun when he was pulled over by cops in Markham this week.

York Regional Police say officers were on patrol in the area of Hwy. 7 E. and Cornell Central Blvd. – east of ninth line – when they stopped a vehicle that was allegedly speeding around 10:50 p.m. on Monday.

The driver exhibited signs of impairment and open alcohol was observed in the vehicle, police allege.

The man was arrested and a loaded firearm was allegedly found when officers searched the vehicle.

Police claim the recovered gun was stolen during a 2020 residential break-and-enter in Kitchener and the driver was on a lifetime weapon prohibition order at the time of his arrest.

Vildredo Edinson Martinez-Fontela, of the Township of Roseneath, is charged with impaired operation, impaired operation – 80 plus, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possession of property obtained by crime, driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor, speeding, and disobeying a lawful court order.
