It may be three weeks to Christmas – but one shop is already looking ahead to Easter.

One stunned shopper spotted Cadbury’s Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs on sale in Co Antrim.

The sweet treats were seen at the Mace branch on the Moss Road in Lambeg.

Easter Sunday is not until April 20 next year – 137 days away.

The customer told the Belfast Telegraph: “It was quite a sight. I walked into the store hearing, ‘Rocking Around the Christmas Tree’ playing out of the speakers, only to be confronted with Cadbury Mini Eggs and Creme Eggs as I browsed around the shop.

“It stopped me in my tracks. It’s early December. It was irritating enough seeing them on Boxing Day, but at the start of December, it’s ridiculous. I don’t even blame the retailers; there’s clearly demand for them.

“But can we as consumers stop feeding the demand. And then we can actually enjoy the build-up to major calendar events.”

Cadbury’s do not sell Creme Eggs all year round, previously explaining that doing so means they stop being “special.”

In 2014, Tony Bilborough from Cadbury said the company had attempted year-long sales in the 90s but it “didn’t work.”

He told BBC Radio 5 live’s Breakfast: “There’s something special about Creme Egg season… We long for it in those long, eggless days of summer and autumn.”
