Look, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we have a lot of winter left. Spring is a distant dream, so it’s best to get toasty and cosy while we wait for the daffodils to sprout – and an heated electric blanket is perfect for avoiding turning the central heating on.

Debenhams has just cut the price of their Sherpa Electric Low Energy Heated Blanket down to £34.99 from it’s original £79.99, a saving of 56 per cent. This beats Tesco’s price on the same item (£39.99).

Sherpa material is known for being very soft, so works as a standard blanket even without the electricity. It’s machine washable as you can remove the controller, which should make it easy to care for especially if you’re eating over it.

The temperatures range from 95F (35C) to 118F (47C), with three adjustable settings on the controller. The heated blanket has UKCA certifications, meaning it’s passed the safety tests to be sold in the UK.

The blanket has racked in some good reviews on Debenhams. One person wrote: “Lovely warm heated throw. Very pleased with it. Great in the evenings reading or watching TV – so cosy. It’s large enough to go over two adults. Great VFM. Would have liked a longer lead but ok. That’s why 4/5 stars.” The chord comes in at 2.45 metres, so make sure you are close enough to the plug before purchasing.

Another added: “Really pleased with this. It arrived very quickly with no problems. Looking forward to using it when it gets colder. It is really thick and cosy.” A third remarked: “Bought this a few weeks ago and absolutely love it on these cold winter days, have turned down the central heating a couple of degrees as not needed when using this lovely throw & only costs around 3p a hour to run. Don’t understand the negative reviews because I’m delighted with mine”

However, not all reviews were positive, with one person saying: “nice blanket but it does not heat right throughout the blanket for some reason or other.”
