Ian Ogle was murdered just yards from his east Belfast home.

The well-known loyalist was brutally stabbed and beaten to death in Cluan Place, the attack on him has been compared to an attack from a “pack of hyenas”.

Five people have now been found guilty of his murder, including local loyalist Robert ‘Rab’ Spiers, who owned the murder weapon.

The killing shocked the local community and effectively brought down the leadership of the East Belfast UVF, leading to huge PSNI task force pressure which resulted in over 30 drug dealing convictions.

Ogle’s daughter Toni Johnson has fought for justice for her father from the beginning, but questions are now being asked over why it took almost six years for the case to go through the courts.

Ciaran Barnes tells Ciarán Dunbar the story of the brutal murder of Ian Ogle, who was behind it and why and how it affected the UVF.
