The life of a 60-year-old California art teacher ended after being bitten by a rabid bat she was trying to rescue in her classroom.

Leah Seneng died last week after contracting rabies from the bat, Fresno County health officials told ABC30.
The news outlet reported that Seneng found a bat lying in her classroom at Bryant Middle School in Dos Palos, Calif., in mid-October. The teacher reportedly tried to scoop up the animal and take it outside when it woke up, flew around and bit Seneng before flying off.
The woman fell ill a month after being bitten. Seneng’s daughter took her to hospital where she was placed into a coma.
She died on Nov. 22.
A GoFundMe was set up to help with funeral costs. As of Friday, it has raised $2,564.
