An incarcerated woman awaiting trial in Florida may not be the Virgin Mary, but she managed to get pregnant with some not-so-divine intervention.

Daisy Link, facing a second-degree murder charge after her boyfriend was fatally shot in the leg, has also revealed that the baby’s father, a fellow inmate, is also charged with murder.
“It’s a real twist, it is. Everybody says it to me, this is like some Lifetime Movie Network,” Link, 29, told Miami’s Fox affiliate WSVN.
Link has been locked up at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade for two years. But in June she gave birth to a baby girl after the station broke the news in January that she was pregnant and her family wanted to know how it happened.
Link said she has never met the father of her child, Joan Depaz. Following DNA analysis, the results confirmed he was the dad. She explained that they met through the jail’s air vents.
“You would knock on it and you can hear the people from the different floors,” she said. “You would stand on the toilet actually to be able to talk to them.”
Shortly thereafter, the pair began exchanging notes and pictures between floors.
“Being in isolation for so long you begin to spend hours and hours talking to this person, you know, to the point where it’s almost as if you’re in the same room with them.”
Eventually, they formed a romantic relationship in prison. The 23-year-old father then told her his dream.
“I always really wanted to have a baby,” Depaz said. “And I’m not gonna get to do that for a really long time. So if I had to choose somebody, you know, it would be you. And she was like, ‘Yeah, we could do that.’”
Then they came up with a plan. He would wrap his semen in Saran Wrap and attach it to a line made out of bedding material she dropped through the vent one floor below.
“He would kind of like roll it up almost like a cigarette and he would attach it to the line that we had in the vent and I would pull it through,” she said.
“From there, I had placed it inside of, you know, the yeast infection applicators. I had placed it inside of there and then from there, yeah, I administered it.”

After a few tries, Link became pregnant.
“I can’t believe it worked,” she said. “I think everything happened for a reason.”
Depaz said he is treated like a celebrity in jail.
The baby is now five months old and living with Depaz’s mother.
Prison officials have moved him to another jail, but they still talk on the phone and see their daughter on video visits.
“She could be anything,” the mother said. “I think that she’s gonna be something great.”
Miami-Dade Corrections said the incident is still being probed by internal affairs investigators.
