A 17-year-old girl was mauled to death by pigs after her neighbour allegedly knocked her unconscious in a horrific incident in Russia.

Milena Shevelyova was found dead in a pigsty in Ushkanka on November 23, with initial reports suggesting she had been killed by an aggressive pig.

However, in a dramatic twist, police have arrested her 40-year-old neighbour Igor Zaika, who is accused of attacking the teenager and leaving her to be savaged by the animals.

The incident occurred whilst Milena was feeding the animals at her family’s farm.

In police footage, Zaika confessed to the attack, telling officers: “I opened the door and saw his daughter leaving. I hit her twice.”

“I hit her the first time, she [pushed me] away. I hit her the second time,” he said.

“I hit her a second time, she fell over there,” he added in the video, which also showed investigators searching the area with metal detectors.

The suspect has been charged with causing death by negligence and was taken into police custody. According to investigators, Zaika “harboured a grudge” against Milena’s father and had initially planned to set fire to the pigpen.

The suspect was reportedly caught by surprise when Milena entered the pen to feed the animals. Investigators believe Zaika struck the teenager, causing her to lose consciousness, before leaving her at the mercy of the animals.

The incident occurred while Milena had been left in charge of the farm animals whilst her parents were visiting a nearby city. Milena was discovered by her boyfriend with multiple bite marks across her body, and paramedics later confirmed her death at the scene.

Investigators released a statement saying: “During the investigation, investigators and forensic specialists, in cooperation with police officers, established that the girl’s death might be linked to a resident of the village of Ushkanka in the Uzhursky District, who lives nearby.”

“He allegedly inflicted bodily injuries on the girl, causing her to lose consciousness,” the statement continued.

Reports indicate she died from blood loss after the animals tore her femoral artery. The investigation into Milena’s death remains ongoing, with forensic examinations being conducted to determine the exact cause.

The prosecutor of Krasnoyarsk’s Uzhursky District immediately attended the scene, with officials stating that “all necessary prosecutorial measures will be taken” if grounds are established.

In a heartbreaking tribute, Milena’s boyfriend Vladimir Bedny, 18, wrote: “You will forever remain in my heart. Forgive me for everything, my most beloved girl.”

The suspect has been taken to the investigative department for further questioning.
