IT attempts to solve problems faced by people, and no problem has been more discussed in NI in recent years than post-Brexit trading.

Scaffold Digital has sought to ease the pain of the protocol through their Digicom Customs project, and for their work they were awarded IT Project of the Year.

The judges’ comments reflect their high regard for Scaffold’s work: “An amazing example of the unique challenges brought about by the launch of the NI Protocol, and the response from Scaffold to service this set of emergent circumstances, enabling transformation for trading in the post-Brexit economy, measuring clear objectives, minimising risk, remaining agile and focussed on client outcomes makes Scaffold the clear winner of IT Project of the Year.”

The company describes its work as, “a collaborative effort between Derry Bros Customs Clearance (DBCC) and Scaffold Digital”.

“The project was initiated in response to Brexit and the Northern Ireland protocol when the shipping industry changed overnight. The sudden and complex changes in customs regulations created confusion, delays, and increased administrative burdens for businesses.

“Previously, these problems were managed manually, requiring time-intensive data entry and navigation of different systems for compliance.

“This led to processing delays, errors, and higher costs for businesses who need to stay compliant in an evolving regulatory landscape.

“Digicom solves these problems by providing a fully integrated, automated platform that streamlines the entire customs clearance process.

“It drastically reduces processing time by up to 600% through features like direct data import, seamless integration with government systems such as TSS, Irish Revenue and HMRC, and simplified handling of repeat consignments.”

Scaffold says that the ceremony was a chance to bring a remote-first team together to celebrate their achievements.

“The whole team was delighted to receive the IT Project of the Year award and there’s been a real buzz ever since. Given the tough competition within our category this recognition is truly a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication.”
