Rory McIlroy is in the running for a fourth PGA Tour Player of the Year award having been nominated for the gong for the third season running.
The Holywood man has been nominated alongside Major winners Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele for the annual award.
Although McIlroy is the only one on the list not to win a Major this year, he did pick up two wins at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – alongside Shane Lowry – and Wells Fargo Championship, and recorded seven top-tens and only one missed cut, finishing sixth in scoring average (69.91).
Schauffele appears to be the front runner having won two Majors, the PGA Championship and Open Championship, and did not miss a cut all season on his way to 15 top-ten finishes.
As well as his two wins, the American also finished in the top-ten at the other two Majors, the Masters and US Open, and holds the longest active made cut streak (56) since Tiger Woods’ incredible run of 142 between 1998 and 2005.
And then there’s World No.1 Scheffler, who is going for his third straight Player of the Year title after yet another outstanding campaign that saw him win the Masters, Players Championship, Tour Championship and the Olympic gold medal.
The FedEx Cup champion would end the year with seven wins from 19 starts, as well as the Byron Nelson Award for the lowest scoring average (68.65) and the most top-tens with 16.
The Jack Nicklaus Award is voted for by the players and will be handed out before the end of the season, as will the Rookie of the Year Award which looks even closer.
Nick Dunlap, the first ever player to win as an amateur and a professional in the same season, looked to be the clear front runner early in the year, but fellow PGA Tour winners Matthieu Pavon and Jake Knapp will be given careful consideration, as will Max Greyserman who has had a solid campaign.
