A male pedestrian aged in his 50s has died in a hit-and-run collision in Limerick city.

The man was struck by a car on the Ennis Road shortly before 2pm on Tuesday.

The car involved – a maroon-coloured Ford Focus, registration 141 C 3717 – failed to remain at the scene but was subsequently recovered.

A man aged in his 30s has been arrested in relation to the incident.

The Ennis Road remained closed on Tuesday evening while Garda forensic collision investigators worked at the scene.

Gardai have appealed to anyone with information on the movements of the Ford Focus around the time of the incident, including road users in the area who may have dashcam footage, to contact them.
