Conor McManus intends to soldier on with the Monaghan footballers for another season – providing his body allows him to.
The Farney legend was tipped to hang up his county boots after Monaghan’s season ended at the hands of Galway in this year’s preliminary All-Ireland quarter-final but he looks set to carry on into 2025.
This is a huge boost to new boss Gabriel Bannigan as he looks to get Monaghan back into Division 1 of the League again before then starting an assault on Ulster.
McManus, who turns 37 on Saturday, confirmed the news on Off The Ball’s Football Pod with the three-time All-Star already getting through some preparations for the coming season.
“It seems to be when you turn 30, them questions just seem to appear,” McManus said of the constant rumours around his county future in recent seasons.
“I still don’t really know, I sort of committed to doing a bit of rehab and a bit of strength work over the next five to six weeks and see how that goes.
“If it puts me in a position where I feel I can get through another year, I will and if it doesn’t, I’ll probably leave it at that so I suppose I’ll have to make that decision sooner rather than later.
“I don’t want to drag it on any longer than I need to but I’ll give it a chance. I didn’t really do much until the club season was over, we lost the county final so I’ll sort of get into a block of that now for five or six weeks.”
