A St. Thomas woman is charged with assault over a clash police say involved two people attending the city’s Santa Claus parade and a disagreement over one family’s view being blocked.

A 62-year-old from St. Thomas was arrested at the annual parade on Saturday evening, St. Thomas police said in a news release Sunday.

Police say a dispute erupted between a woman and another spectator over a family’s view being obstructed. The woman struck the victim in the face, knocking them to the ground, St. Thomas police said.

Police were called and the suspect was arrested. The woman, whose name police did not make public, was taken to police headquarters and released with a future court date, St. Thomas police said.

Man charged with assault on child: St. Thomas police

A man has been charged with one count of assault after a child reported abuse at school, St. Thomas police say.

Police say an 11-year-old child reported at school on Friday morning that they had been assaulted by their father the night before. The unidentified child sustained minor injuries, St. Thomas police said in a news release on Saturday.

Family and Children Services were contacted and informed police of the incident, police said. The department’s criminal investigations branch took over the investigation, police said.

The child’s father, whose identity has not been made public, was arrested and charged with one count of assault, police said.

He was released on an undertaking with conditions in place to protect the child, St. Thomas police said.
