Passengers have been urged “not to travel” by train today (Monday, November 25) due to severe flooding. Storm Bert thrashed the UK with heavy rain and strong winds over the weekend.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said that all train services have been suspended across the South West region. The disruption is expected to last throughout the day.

GWR said in a post on X at 7.16am: “GWR has suspended train services on all key routes after flooding and fallen trees have blocked access at key locations on the Great Western network.

“We’re sorry for the disruption to journeys. Network Rail and GWR teams are working hard across the network and will carry out inspections to reopen lines at quickly as possible. Disruption is expected to last until at least the end of the day on Monday.

“Customers are advised NOT TO TRAVEL and check for the latest updates at GWR.com.”

GWR added that customers can use their tickets for today on Tuesday and Wednesday. They may also claim a full refund. There are no replacement bus services.

Luke Pollard MP added on X: “There are no trains to or from the south west or Wales today due to flooding from Storm Bert. Please do not drive through flood waters.

“Do not take the risk. Thank you to emergency services and those trying to recover services like Network Rail and GWR are doing. Be safe.”

CrossCountry Trains added: “Due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Bristol Temple Meads and Exeter St Davids all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 10:00 25/11.”
