Newtownabbey DJ Dean McCullough has successfully completed his sixth Bushtucker Trial on the latest episode of I’m a Celebrity.. Get Me Out of Here! as former Love Island contestant Maura Higgins celebrated her 34th birthday.

The public voted for Radio 1 presenter Dean to complete the fairy tale themed ‘Jack and the Scream Stalk’ challenge, and he surprised fans by winning 10 stars.

Dean hadn’t fared well in previous trials, shouting “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!” on more than one occasion and picking up very few stars since entering the jungle.

For this challenge, he was dressed as Jack from the popular fairytale, Jack and the Beanstalk.

Ant and Dec introduced him to the trial – which included a large beanstalk and a castle.

The presenters explained how there were 12 numbered stars up for grabs, which Dean would need to collect in the right order, within a 12-minute timeframe.

To successfully complete the trial, Dean needed to climb up the beanstalk, collecting stars as he went.

When he got to the top, and to the highest point in the trial, he had to collect and assemble a golden egg before moving to the castle to collect the rest of the stars.

As he made his way up the beanstalk, Dean had to put his hand in various boxes — or hell holes — containing the likes of green ants, cockroaches, giant mealworms and spiders to collect each star.

Throughout the trial, the Northern Irish DJ begged Ant and Dec not to tell him what was in the hell holes. However, as he attempted to retrieve the fourth star, Ant accidentally revealed Dean was putting his hand in a box of spiders.

This led him to panic and quickly pull his hand out.

After some convincing from Ant and Dec, Dean put his hand back into the box of spiders.

He managed to unscrew the star but dropped it as he was trying pull it out, exclaiming: “It’s fell in with the spiders! No!”

After more encouragement from Ant and Dec, who chanted “Face your fear!” at an overwhelmed Dean, he was able to win the star.

Dean then had to piece together the golden egg which constituted star number five.

Finally, he had to conquer the castle, where the remaining seven stars were up for grabs.

As Dean ascended the castle wall and it began to tip, he grew tired and ran out of strength to hold on.

The DJ let go of the handholds, dramatically falling and losing out on the final two stars.

Ant and Dec gave Dean a round of applause at his personal best score of 10 out of 12 stars.

The DJ apologised to the pair for not winning all 12 stars.

“I was knackered by the time I got to number 3 – I just wanted to make you proud for one wee second,” Dean said.

But when he returned to the camp, he celebrated with his campmates who congratulated him on his biggest win so far.

Dean even received praise from former boxing champion, Barry McGuigan.

“He screams and shouts and he’s over-dramatic but he is real trooper!” Barry said.
