While we’re still a week away from the main event, Black Friday season is already in full swing with brands such as Amazon, Debenhams, Lovehoney, Ninja and Shark slashing prices on thousands of items. However, for those on the hunt for a bargain, one of the most significant and best early Black Friday sales currently live comes from Oodie, which has cut a massive 50% off everything site wide.
This means shoppers can make substantial savings not only on the iconic loungewear that’s become a winter staple for many, but also on dozens of other products. The Australian loungewear brand’s hooded blanket has won over consumers and inspired everyone from the White Company to Poundland to create their own versions. Moreover, this year’s Black Friday discounts have seen the original design reduced to its lowest ever price of £32.50, making it cheaper than many of its competitors.
However, if you believe Oodie is solely about the fleecy garments that bear their name, then you’re missing out on not only some fantastic deals this Black Friday and some genuinely innovative clothing items. The brand has expanded into shoes, trousers, slippers, towel ponchos and even mini Oodies for dogs, as well as designs dedicated to Pokemon, Harry Potter, Stranger Things and Star Wars.
This means there’s much more to Oodie – and their Black Friday sale – than initially meets the eye. Here are our top must-haves from this year’s Oodie Black Friday sale, as tried and tested by the Mirror’s Shopping team.
Sleep Oodie – was from £45 now from £22.50
Over the past few years, I’ve sampled a variety of Oodie products, starting with my first purchase, a navy blue version of the original hooded blanket. I bought it to keep warm while working from home, as I didn’t want to turn on the heating when I was the only one in the house.
There’s no denying that we all adore this iconic cosywear, with its elasticated sleeves that prevent tangling or unwelcome draughts, and the large pocket perfect for storing your phone, snacks, or even the remote control if you wish to hide it from anyone who might interrupt your binge-watching session.
However, anyone who has attempted to sleep in the full thickness of the original Oodie will know that sometimes too much of a good thing can leave you feeling overly hot and unable to sleep. This is where the brilliance of the Sleep Oodie comes into play.
Constructed from bamboo cotton and just as generously sized as its fleecy counterpart, the Sleep Oodie‘s appeal lies in the fact that the fabric allows for a type of temperature regulation that I had previously seen in wicking workout gear but had never considered for my nightwear. The thermo-regulating properties of bamboo, which cool you down during exercise, help keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
It’s quite loose-fitting, which might be a deal-breaker for some, and the cotton material means it takes a bit of time to dry. However, it’s genuinely the most comfortable sleepwear I’ve ever owned and is ideal if you tend to feel cold at the start of the night but warm up as you sleep – it’s gained a lot of fans among women experiencing hot flushes.
Sleep Oodies are available in a broad variety of designs, with prices starting from £22.50. This is not only significantly cheaper than when I first reviewed it, but also offers better value than many other high street sleepwear options, leading me to seriously contemplate getting another one.
Outdoor Oodie was £109 now £54.50
It’s not just Oodie’s premium sleepwear that’s suddenly more affordable than many other reliable high street alternatives. I’ve been donning the Camo blue reversible Outdoor Oodie for weeks, and the sale makes it a better value proposition than many other winter coats I’d been considering as the weather shifted.
While the oversized pockets, giant hood and overall cosiness are a staple, there are several differences between the outdoor version compared to its indoor counterpart, and for me, they’re all reasons it’s a must-buy. I’m a big fan of an Oodie, but initially, I was slightly worried that an Outdoor Oodie would be too shapeless to wear out.
However, unlike the traditional ones, the Outdoor Oodie comes in several (still very generous) sizes, allowing you to choose something large enough to layer underneath as much as you want, without looking like you’re draped in a tent.
It features a handy double zip that allows easy adjustment of how you fasten it, but my absolute favourite feature, as someone who constantly suffers from cold hands and wrists, is the thumbhole that keeps the sleeves in place regardless of the weather. As someone who enjoys beach walks throughout the year, it has become my winter coat of choice.
Oodie shoes – were £59 now £29.50
When shopping writer and self-confessed sneakerhead Rachel Pugh swapped her trainers for Oodie’s first venture into footwear while taking her dog on muddy winter walks, she expected warm feet. But perhaps what was more surprising was her conclusion that the shoes ‘were the best she’d ever bought.’
She describes her experience: “Oodie’s Black Puffer Boots initially reminded me of North Face’s Thermoball boots, a style I’ve been eyeing for some time. But besides being cheaper, Oodie’s had another advantage – a beautiful Sherpa fleece interior lining, meaning you don’t even need to wear thick socks to experience a cloud-like feel on your feet.”
Elaborating on her satisfaction with the purchase, she adds: “With both style and practicality covered, I took the leap and placed my order, and I’m glad I did. Since my Oodie Black Puffer Boots arrived, I can honestly say I’ve worn them every single day. They feel like a slipper, with a fleece lining and padded heel support, but they have a rubber sole design that allows you to wear them outside without worrying about leaks or wear and tear. They’re the ultimate multipurpose shoe for autumn and winter.”
Weighted Blanket – was £97 now £47.50
Weighted blankets use the scientific principles behind deep pressure stimulation to promote deeper, more restful sleep, with some fans also saying it helps deal with anxiety and stress. Oodie’s ultra-soft blanket usually costs £95 and is available in several colours and three weights – 4.5kg, 6.8kg and 9kg. The weight is dispersed evenly throughout the blanket, so you get even distribution across your body.
Journalist Phoebe Barton gave it a try, likening it to a ‘reassuringly warm hug’. She explained: “The weighted blanket can be used underneath your duvet so it’s directly on your body, but I prefer having the blanket on top of my duvet. That night when I got into bed, the blanket felt a little heavy at first, but by the time I snuggled down to sleep after reading a couple of chapters of my book, my body had become used to the weight which felt warm and comforting.
“I drifted off to sleep quickly and found I fidgeted a lot less, prompting me to wake up fewer times in the night. Whenever I woke up to turn over, it was so cosy and relaxing feeling the weight of the blanket on top of me – it felt like I was being hugged.”
She added: “The Oodie weighted blanket is a permanent addition to my bed throughout the autumn and winter. I’ve found it to be more effective than the three ordinary blankets I usually have on top of my duvet combined.”
Oodie Slippers – were from £49 now from £24.50
Oodie offers a variety of slipper styles, including cosy boots and platform and flat slides. I have a pair of the flat black two strap sherpa slides which have been perfect for late summer into autumn. I love the style of them, they remind me of Uggs’ Oh Yeah slides but without the restraint of the elastic heel strap. They have a decent sole for when you need to slip outside for a minute or two but are still comfy.
I might revert to larger boots – or pair these with socks – for the coldest temperatures, but generally, I find these boots sufficiently cool when the weather is mild and adequately warm for all but the frostiest conditions.
Oodie Cushion Case – was £10 now £5
As a woman who owns multiple Oodies (everyone needs a festive one, don’t they?) – Sleep Oodies, slippers and an outdoor coat version, you’d think I wouldn’t need anything from the Oodie Black Friday sale. However, a brilliant new product has piqued my interest, and at this price, I’m considering buying two.
The Oodie Cushion case is now discounted to £5. As someone who struggles with storage space for my Oodies during the summer – I don’t want to stash them in the attic, but they occupy a significant amount of space at the top of the wardrobe – this seems like a practical solution for storing them.
If you have an Oodie enthusiast in your life, this could be the perfect Christmas gift they didn’t even realise they needed – and at £5, it’s the most affordable item in the Oodie Black Friday sale, as well as arguably one of the most useful.
