A man has died after a tree fell on his car near Winchester as Storm Bert wreaks havoc across the UK.

Hampshire Police were called to the A34 southbound carriageway between Kings Worthy and Winnall at 7.47am on Saturday morning.


The driver of a black Mercedes E350, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have informed the man’s family, though the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation.

A silver Skoda Kodiaq was also damaged in the incident, though no other injuries were reported. Officers have informed the man’s family, though the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam footage. The incident occurred as Storm Bert continues to batter the UK with severe weather conditions.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley said: “Storm Bert marks a shift to much milder air and wintry hazards will gradually diminish through the weekend.”

Police and emergency services across the country have urged people to stay at home and only travel when necessary.

The Met Office has warned of potential flooding and property damage in affected areas, with difficult driving conditions expected to continue.
