Football fans appear to be revelling in Manchester City’s poor form after their latest defeat at the hands of Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola’s side have dominated English football during the Spaniard’s tenure with six league titles in the past seven years.

They’ve averaged more than 91 points in that period with teams struggling to kick them off their perch.

But there’s been a chink in their armour recently that has been exposed with City going on a run of games without a win.

The November international break was a chance for City to regroup and Guardiola’s contract extension this week was another much-needed boost.

However, Tottenham have proven to be a bogey side for City in recent years and that proved to be the case once more on Saturday evening.

A quickfire brace from James Maddison inside the opening 20 minutes stunned the home crowd with City unable to respond.

Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was relatively untested as City struggled to provide the service for Erling Haaland.

And things only got worse for City in the second half as Dejan Kulusevski cut through multiple challenges to lead a break before Pedro Porro finished off the counter-attack.

Guardiola appeared stunned on the touchlines and his substitutions after going 3-0 down failed to have much of an impact.

Tottenham held off City’s push for an unlikely comeback before Brennan Johnson rounded things off with his side’s fourth in stoppage time.

City’s latest defeat was a source of amusement for some football fans on social media as well, who couldn’t help but poke fun at Guardiola’s contract extension.

Another said: “If this man wasn’t named Pep Guardiola he would have been sacked tonight.

“It’s the first time in Guardiola’s managerial career that he’s lost five games in a row.

He’ll be hoping to stop the rot on Tuesday when they face Feyenoord before a tricky test away to league-leaders Liverpool.
