“We send our best wishes to those receiving attention.”

Sunderland were leading 1-0 at the time of the match being suspended after Aaron Connolly’s opener in the 10th minute.

According to the Sunderland Echo, the fan was taken out of the stadium on a stretcher.

The initial incident is said to have happened in the Dockers Stand, but it’s claimed there was a separate medical emergency that occurred at the same time.

The PA system inside the ground issued an update to supporters that there was a medical incident that still needed to be seen to before play could resume.

Players eventually returned to the field after a 20-minute delay to see out the remainder of the first half.
