As a vegetarian who lives locally, I thought it was about time I popped over to see what was on offer at Easton’s new vegetarian Indian restaurant.

Pappu Dosa, as the name suggests, specialises in Indian dosas. These are large savoury pancakes which are often found in the south of the country.

I have tried several in Bristol, so I already know I enjoy them. While the restaurant has more than a dozen different dosas, I was recommended the Mysore Masala Dosa.

The restaurant has capacity for 85 people.

It’s a huge pancake filled with spicy potato with tomato, coriander and coconut chutney and sambar. The pancake was so big, it was almost intimidating but in the end I managed to finish it without making too much of a mess.

It also had a tangy cheese flavour to it, which made it tastier than other dosas I have tried in the past. I was also particularly impressed with the range of chutneys which came with the dish.

The restaurant also sells a range of traditional Indian sweets.

The coconut chutney mixes really well with the pancake and helps to counter the spicy potato filling. In the past I had considered the coconut chutney to be my favourite but that was before I had tried the coriander chutney which was absolutely delicious.

The pancake is so big it almost falls off the plate.

While I did a good job at first in eating the dish by hand, which is the custom in India, in the end I decided to use a knife and fork as the potato filling began to fall out.

Once I had finished, I washed it down with a chai but the flavour of the dish stayed with me. Although it was quite a lot for lunch, I didn’t feel bloated afterwards but by dinner time I was still full up.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant which is also family friendly and caters to large groups. Their menu is extensive, relatively inexpensive and I am looking forward to my next visit.

There are also plenty of snacks for sale for as little as £3.50 and the restaurant also has a range of Indo-Chinese dishes, north Indian dishes and lunchtime deals. Pappu Dosa can be found at Space 238, 238 Stapleton Road.
