Mansfield Town are expected to require a change in goalkeeper for when they host Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon after first choice shot stopper Christy Pym was forced off injured in their last game against Wrexham.
The 29-year-old hasn’t been training since having to come off in the 31st minute of their 1-0 defeat at the Racecourse Ground a fortnight ago, a game in which the Stags came away from particularly frustrated having performed well.
Pym has started every League One game this season as well as Mansfield’s League Cup defeat to Bolton Wanderers and FA Cup victory over Curzon Ashton with 38-year-old Flinders expected to step in.
On the goalkeeper’s injury, Stags manager Nigel Clough told club media: “He’s not training at the moment but it’s not too bad, still quite sore. So we’ll see how he is for Saturday but I think with all those games coming up he’s doubtful. But we’ve got no problem with Scott Flinders coming in for a game or two.”
Flinders has made most of his 15 appearances for Mansfield in the EFL Trophy with his substitute appearance at Wrexham his first league appearance for the Stags since March 2023.

However, having made the majority of of his career appearances for Hartlepool and Cheltenham Town, the veteran ‘keeper is one that boasts a plethora of experience having also played for the likes of Crystal Palace, Barnsley, Brighton and Hove Albion and Yeovil Town. during his extensive career.
Elsewhere, the hope for Clough is that he will be able to have a full strength squad available bar the absence of Pym if this game proves to come too soon for the goalkeeper.
Attacking midfielder George Maris and left-back Stephen McLaughlin both missed the trip to Wrexham but have trained this week with the Mansfield boss adding: “George was just outside the 18 and Stephen, a stiffness of back and hamstrings and everything. They both trained on Monday so we’re hoping to have a fully fit squad.”
