A Bristol Community radio station will be holding an end of year event at the Bristol Beacon in December. Ujima Radio will be celebrating 16 years of broadcasting and honouring its staff and volunteers.

Ujima Radio CIC is Bristol’s leading African and Caribbean arts and media social enterprise. The radio station is largely run by volunteers who support the radio with regular local shows.

Station Manager, Miranda Ray said: “Ujima Radio are really excited to celebrate another incredible year of community radio. We would like to thank all our volunteers for all their hard work and commitment.

“We have over 70 volunteers, 56 shows a week and without them we could not broadcast. It is an absolute privilege to be able to give a platform to voices that all to often go unheard including all the artists, musicians, organisations, community members, activists and so much more that as an independent media platform we can do on and off air. And of course to share this with our listeners and extended Ujima family.”

Madu Ellis, director of operations at Ujima Radio said: “Ujima Radio celebrates 16 years as a broadcaster with a mission to provide empowerment, education, entertainment and information primarily to people of Afrikan heritage but not exclusively.”

The music event is scheduled to take place on Saturday December 21 from 8pm to 2am at the Bristol Beacon Lantern Room. British Loversrock sensation Sandra Cross and her live band will be headlining the event.

The event will be supported by Miss Faithee alongside music from a range of Ujima DJs. The evening is open to anyone over 16-years-old and tickets are being sold for £21.80
