Savannah Adams, 28, is accused of killing Tiffany Dunford at her home in Wythe County, police said.
The horrific incident happened on Sunday in an outbuilding at the property, Law & Crime reported.
Dunford was sitting on a couch outside when Adams allegedly set her on fire. The accused reportedly sat on a couch inside while the woman was burning.
“Upon arrival, deputies discovered the victim suffering from severe burns covering most of her body,” Wythe County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “The victim was transported by helicopter to a specialized medical facility for treatment of her injuries.”
Police said died of her injuries the next day.
Adams allegedly fled the scene in a silver 2004 Dodge Neon and was arrested Monday.
The motive of the killing is unclear, though police said Dunford and Adams were acquaintances who knew each other through friends and family, according to the Daily Mail.
Facebook posts from Dunford’s relatives said Adams allegedly hacked one of her family members on Facebook.
The incident isn’t Adams’ first run-in with the law. She was previously charged with misdemeanour destruction of property in July in Pulaski County and was free on bond for allegedly attacking a woman with a metal pipe in 2023, according to the Bristol Herald Courier.
Adams has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and felonious assault.
She has been held without bond at New River Valley Regional Jail.
