We’re not sure if there’s something in the playbook to get out of this jam.
A championship-winning high school football coach has been placed on leave pending an investigation after allegedly being caught on camera watching pornography in a classroom – in front of students.
A student at Miami Jackson Senior High School recorded Max Edwards, the school’s football coach, viewing the X-rated material on a school computer. The footage was obtained by CBS Miami and posted to YouTube.
The video taken by the student shows a Miami Jackson staffer, alleged to be Edwards, at a desktop computer in the corner of a classroom with the explicit content blatantly on the screen, while in view from the door.
Edwards was placed on leave by the Miami-Dade School District after the report surfaced and a full investigation has been launched, officials said.
“Miami-Dade Public Schools is disturbed by the allegation made regarding concerning behavior involving an employee at Miami Jackson Senior High School,” the district said in a statement.
“The individual has been removed from the school site pending the outcome of an investigation.”
It’s unclear if Edwards could face criminal charges for the incident.
According to the local outlet, Edwards is a prominent high school football coach in south Florida. He previously had coached at Miami Northwestern Senior High School for a decade and led teams to three state championships, according to WPLG.
During his time in charge of Northwestern, Edwards was investigated for holding what the district deemed “unauthorized athletic activities” in the COVID-19 season.
He was suspended, but later reinstated in June of 2020.
Miami Jackson’s season ended last week after losing a region quarterfinal playoff game to Naples Lely.
During his two seasons in charge of Miami Jackson, Edwards has a record of 7-13.
