Suddenly, it looks like the rebuilding Canadiens actually know how to play defence.

They beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 last Saturday and then shut out the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 on Monday.

What happened?

That’s the main question answered on this week’s Hockey Inside/Out Show as former Canadiens teammates Chris Nilan and Rick Green, who were part of Montreal’s 1986 Stanley Cup team, join the Gazette’s Stu Cowan.

They also explore how the recent play of goalie Sam Montembeault has factored into the improved defence. In his last four games, Montembeault has a 3-1-0 record, a 0.93 goals-against average and a .966 save percentage.

Offensively, Lane Hutson has yet to score a goal in 21 NHL games (he does have 13 assists) and Juraj Slafkovsky has only one goal this season. How big of a concern is that?
