Ensuring your clothes are properly dry this winter is crucial to avoid potential health issues. To combat the risk of damp and mould, you may have invested in a dehumidifier.
However, experts have revealed a smart dehumidifier trick that can help you dry your clothes in half the time. Consumer site Which? shared this ingenious tip on social media, reports the Express.
They advised: “Hang up your wet washing inside and put the dehumidifier underneath or next to it. We tried this on two identical loads of washing with and without a dehumidifier, and the verdict using a dehumidifier cut drying time by nearly half.”
Moreover, the experts discovered that the dehumidifier absorbed around two litres of water from the air. Absorbing the water from the air reduces the likelihood of developing damp or mould indoors during the winter.
When drying clothes at home, it’s important to consider which room to avoid to prevent mould. Researchers warn that drying your clothes in the bedroom could lead to problems such as mould, dampness and potential health risks.
Laundry experts at In The Wash stated: “Keeping moisture-filled laundry in your living spaces doesn’t just encourage mould and dampness, it can also lead to respiratory issues, and wet laundry can be a bit smelly too. The bedroom is one of the rooms you spend the most time in.
“Given the fact that wet laundry encourages mould growth, dampness and potential health issues it would be better to keep it out of a room you spend a lot of time in.”
Bedrooms are often less well ventilated than other areas of the home as many lack extractor fans, and homeowners are less likely to keep windows open during the winter months. The experts cautioned: “Drying laundry in such an ill-equipped environment could enhance higher chances of getting a mould infestation.”
They further warned: “In turn, this could lead to more serious health complications for the bedroom user, damp could give rise to several structural problems in the bedroom, and said problems could be costly to put right.”
