Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny says he’s fired up to keep progressing with club and country after making his Northern Ireland debut in Luxembourg.

The 21-year-old made his first Premier League appearance for Palace against Fulham and backed it up with a senior international bow in the 2-2 Nations League draw.

Michael O’Neill’s side earned promotion to League B, despite allowing a two-goal lead to slip at the Stade de Luxembourg.

It has been a whirlwind few days for the Scottish-born midfielder whose mother is from Northern Ireland.

“I’m very proud, you can’t beat it,” Devenny said. “This week’s been very, very good. There are some great players in the squad.

“I just need to learn every day, learn off the best and take that experience away.”

Devenny was a regular for Northern Ireland’s U21s in their recent Euro qualifying campaign. Given how quickly things have been happening for him in the past two weeks, he admitted it had been a struggle to take it all in.

“I try to as much as I can,” he said. “I feel like this is something I’ll look back on for the rest of my life.

“After the game for Palace, I didn’t really know how to react, how to take it in, but I’ve just got to be proud of these moments.

“I was buzzing when I received the call. It is a very proud moment for myself and a crazy week.

“I want to keep taking advantage of opportunities, whether it’s with club or country.

“I was already on a high from making my Premier League debut but I was delighted with the call, I told my mum and my family are happy for me.

“The Northern Ireland fans were great from start to finish and I felt we dominated the game. The result didn’t do us justice but the noise the fans made made us more comfortable.

“After winning the group we want to keep building on what we have achieved.”
