Until the murder of Lyra McKee, Martin O’Hagan was the only journalist to have been murdered in Northern Ireland’s recent history.

The Sunday World reporter was deliberately targeted because of his investigative journalism – and had been living under threat.

His reporting had long angered mid-Ulster UVF boss – and later LVF founder – Billy ‘King Rat’ Wright.

The LVF eventually gunned Martin O’Hagan down on the 28th of September 2001, as he walked home from the pub in Lurgan along with his wife. No one has ever been convicted of the murder.

To tell the story of Martin O’Hagan’s life, career and the fight for justice over his murder – Ciarán Dunbar is joined by journalist and trade union activist Anton McCabe, the Assistant general secretary of the National Unionist of Journalist, Seamus Dooley, and by Jim McDowell, Martin O’Hagan’s editor at the Sunday World.
