A Bristol Indian restaurant has won two awards at this year’s Asian Curry Awards. Achari Indian Kitchen, which is located on Cotham Hill, was awarded the title of Best Restaurant and chef Kamrul Islam received the Best Asian Chef Award at the national awards ceremony held in London this weekend.
It comes less than a month after the restaurant was also recognised at the BCA Awards (Bangladeshi Catering Association), winning the gongs for Best Restaurant and Best Chef there, too.
Achari Indian Kitchen has been a staple of Bristol’s foodie scene since 1992, when it first opened as Indian Ocean. Manager and chef Kamrul said: “These prestigious awards are a testament to our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional food and service.
“It’s a remarkable achievement, highlighting Bristol’s growing reputation as a hub for outstanding dining experiences.”
Sharing a photo of the team to its Instagram page on Sunday, ahead of the restaurant’s win, Achari Indian Kitchen added: “We’re thrilled to represent our passion and dedication on such a grand stage.”
Serving up a vast menu of classic Indian dishes – with curries including Korma, Tikka Masala, Bhuna, Korahi, Rogan Josh, Madras, Jalfrezi, Vindaloo, and more – the restaurant boasts a 4.9 star rating on Google, with some 2,400 reviews to its name at time of writing. One reviewer visiting two months ago said: “Top marks to Achari Indian Kitchen! If you’re ever around some of the charming spots in Bristol like Clifton or Cotham and you enjoy delicious Indian food, then Achari is the place for you.
“Great, friendly and warm service from the staff and everything tastes home made and fresh. You can tell this by the time to cook the dishes, the kind of heat of the food and of course the taste.
“Really enjoyed having dinner and hope to return to sample more parts of the menu soon.”

I have to say it was close to if not the best Indian food I have had in the UK… Phenomenal.”
