Tesco is set to knock a chunky £12 off the price of a bottle of Baileys this week, bringing it down to its lowest price this year. From Tuesday, November 19, Tesco will be reducing the prices of 1L Baileys, an offer that will run until December 9.
Both in-store and online shoppers can grab a bottle for just £10 when using a Clubcard, saving a substantial 54% (£12 saving). According to the Tesco Christmas Trend Report 2024, alcohol tops the list as the nation’s favourite gift for hosts this festive season, and comes second as a present choice for friends and loved ones.
The winter beverage can also be incorporated into recipes such as Festive Eton Mess or Irish Cream Chocolate Yule Log. For England and Wales, the pricing is now £10 with a Clubcard (previously £22), while in Scotland it’s now £11.05 with a Clubcard (in line with MUP).
Baileys Irish Cream, a liqueur made from a blend of Irish whiskey and cream, was first created in 1974 by the Irish company Gilbeys of Ireland, a division of International Distillers and Vintners (IDV). The product was developed as a unique way to market Irish dairy products and whiskey.
The concept was thought up by David Gluckman and Hugh Seymour-Davies, who experimented with blending Irish whiskey and cream. To ensure a shelf-stable product, they worked alongside a team of food scientists to achieve a balance between whiskey and cream, reports Devon Live.
Baileys Irish Cream made its official debut in 1974, earning it the title of the world’s first cream liqueur. Today, Baileys enjoys a global reputation as one of the top-selling liqueurs, with availability in over 180 countries.
Despite its cream content, Baileys boasts a lengthy shelf life (up to 2 years unopened). This is thanks to the emulsification process between the cream and alcohol.
