Both national anthems have been booed by sections of the crowd as England hosted the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams are facing off in the final round of matches in Nations League Group B2, with Lee Carsley’s England sitting at the top of the table.

Despite the match effectively being a dead rubber, the historic rivalry between the two sides produced audible booing ahead of kick off with an electric atmosphere in the full house.

First up was the Republic of Ireland’s anthem – Amhrán na bhFiann – during which boos and jeers were heard from England supporters, alongside chants of “England”.

Afterwards, the anthem of the hosts – God Save the King – began to a chorus of boos from Irish supporters.
