Aldi bosses have warned customers who stocked up on party food from its new Christmas range to bring it back to the shop and not eat it. It was claimed that some products have been found to be unsuitable for thousands of people due to a “possible health risk”.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issues recalls for a variety of reasons, including when products contain allergens that are not disclosed on the packaging or if plastic is detected in the item. When a product is recalled, for any reason, the FSA shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item, as well as detailed information on why the item has been pulled from sale.
A spokesperson on the FSA website said: “Aldi is recalling Let’s Party Vegetable Bao Buns because they contain sesame and duck meat, which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to sesame.
“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to sesame, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Sesame is a major allergen, according to Allergy UK, and can come on quickly, within minutes of eating the food. It can cause severe allergic reactions that present as some of the following symptoms :
- Hives
- a tingling or itchy feeling in the mouth
- swelling of lips, face or eyes
- stomach pain
- vomiting
Aldi has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers in stores too. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
The 8-pack product is said to be the only part of the Let’s Party food range affected by this recall. No other products have been included in the alert.
