Emma Raducanu made a triumphant return to tennis after a two-month injury layoff, securing a commanding 6-4 6-4 victory over Germany’s Jule Niemeier in the Billie Jean King Cup finals in Malaga.
The 22-year-old British star put Great Britain 1-0 up in the tie with a performance that delighted the British supporters, who waved Union Flags and cheered enthusiastically throughout the match.
The former US Open champion showed no signs of rust from her recent foot injury as she dominated the crucial moments.
Raducanu’s serving prowess was particularly impressive, as she fired seven aces past her German opponent who failed to register any of her own.
A crucial moment came in the eighth game of the first set, where Raducanu demonstrated remarkable resilience by saving all five break points she faced.
The British star’s controlled performance was marked by significantly fewer unforced errors than her world No.92 opponent, helping her maintain the upper hand throughout the opening set.

The match’s momentum shifted decisively early in the second set when Raducanu secured a break with what observers called an incredible down-the-line return.
Though Niemeier managed to break back and level the set, her resistance proved short-lived as she netted a crucial shot, allowing Raducanu to move to a 4-2 lead.
Despite a tense finale where Raducanu failed to convert five match points, she maintained her composure to close out a polished 6-4 6-4 victory.
Former British No.1 Lucie Ahl, on BBC commentary duties, praised Raducanu’s commanding performance against Niemeier.
“Emma Raducanu has got to be pretty pleased with that opening set,” Ahl remarked.
“She saved five out of five break points. Excellent serving from her.”
Ahl was particularly impressed with Raducanu’s return game, noting: “[She produced an] unbelievable return [early in the second set to break].

“Such good timing there. Emma Raducanu is starting to return really well.”
Speaking after the match, Raducanu said: “I think I played some really good tennis today.
“Playing Jule on an indoor hard court isn’t easy. It’s a game of holding serve and trying to get a break where you can.
“I haven’t obviously played a match in a long time so these are small sharpness things that come the more matches I play.
