The study, which polled 2,000 adults, discovered that the first thing 55 per cent of people do when they get home is change into something more comfortable, ready for a night in.

To capture the ‘perfect night in’ participants said getting home by 5.30pm, indulging in plenty of snacks and setting the right mood with candles and soothing music was crucial.

When at home 13 per cent seize these quiet moments to finally finish a video game they’ve been playing for months. While a whopping 74 per cent confessed they relish having ‘nothing to do’.

The research was commissioned by haircare brand Timotei, as part of its podcast series ‘A Gentle Start: The Showercast’, designed to be enjoyed during a 10-minute shower.

Cleo Hector, from Timotei, commented: “As we move from summer into the chillier months, it seems many Brits are keen to slow down and be gentler to themselves. Most are looking to boost their wellness routines this winter.”

Over a third feel a heightened need for self-care as the clocks go back and the new wellness trend encourages individuals to manage modern pressures by being kind, calm, and gentle to themselves.

The survey also revealed that 66 per cent of Brits prefer a cosy night in over a night out, finding it more comfortable at home. Over half (53 per cent) find staying in more ‘peaceful’ than going out, and 48 per cent enjoy the chance to fully relax.

However, when planning the ‘perfect’ night in, 55 per cent would rather avoid unexpected visitors.

Over half of the respondents (52 per cent) prefer a quiet night in on their own rather than going out, with two-thirds (65 per cent) actively cancelling social engagements to relish some solitude.

While 45 per cent would choose to spend their ideal night in with family, 24 per cent would rather be home alone, and 9 per cent simply want the company of their pets.

Cleo Hector, from Timotei, commented: “Taking a bath or shower is one of life’s simple pleasures. And with our new podcast you can unwind and learn about gentle living from inspirational women like Laura Whitmore and Martine McCutcheon.”
