A burst water main has forced a major road to close in Bristol city centre, causing long delays for drivers this morning. St Augustines Parade is closed at Baldwin Street after a water main burst yesterday (November 13), with police closing the road late on Wednesday night.

Photos taken at the nearby Colston Street show Avon and Somerset Police officers cordoning off part of the road. Travel social media accounts, such as WEST and First West of England, has confirmed St Augustines Parade is still closed today.

Avon and Somerset Police issued the warning at about 9.29pm on Wednesday night. Taking to X, formally known as Twitter, officers reported: “St Augustine’s Parade in Bristol city centre is partially closed due to a burst water main.

“Traffic from Park Street is being diverted onto Baldwin Street, and traffic heading from Rupert Street has been reduced to one lane. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.”

Travel information service WEST took to social media site X, formerly Twitter, at 7.50am today (Thursday, November 14) saying the road is still closed this morning. “Expect long delays approaching Bristol City Centre from Hotwells Rd and Queens Rd this morning and avoid these routes where possible.”

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: “A38 St Augustine’s Parade Northbound closed, slow traffic due to burst water main at Baldwin Street”
