A community has been left stunned after a man died in a workplace accident at a factory in Co Tyrone.

The incident happened at the Trade Mouldings production plant on Sandholes Road in Cookstown on Wednesday morning.

The company, which makes doors for the home furniture markets, confirmed the deceased was a member of staff.

Cathal Mallaghan Sinn Féin’s MP for Mid Ulster said that the “tragedy has stunned the entire community”.

Mr Mallaghan said: “I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the man killed in a workplace accident in a factory in Cookstown.

“This tragedy has stunned the entire community, but everyone will rally around to support all those affected in what will be difficult days ahead.”

Management at the factory the incident took place also offered condolences to grieving family members and friends.

“Its with great sadness that we have to report there has be a fatal accident involving one of our employees in our factory this morning,” the directors said in a statement.

“Our condolences are with his immediate family at this time.

“The incident is currently under investigation by the police and HSE.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and work colleagues at this difficult time.”

The PSNI said officers are currently at the scene of a sudden death at the site.

A spokesperson confirmed the Health and Safety Executive NI, which investigates workplace accidents, has been informed.

The HSE(NI) said it is aware of the incident and are attending the site.
