UK holidaymakers are being cautioned about travelling to specific non-EU destinations due to surprisingly stringent boarding pass regulations. Sabrina Escapes, a travel guru, issued a warning on TikTok regarding airlines’ recent notices: “Airlines have just issued a boarding pass warning for holidaymakers heading to this popular destination. If you’ve got a trip booked, make sure you’re checking the boarding pass rules.”
She also informed travellers, “Both Ryanair and easyJet have shared warnings to UK holidaymakers regarding their holidays to Morocco. This is due to the local rules in Morocco which mean you’re unable to use your mobile boarding pass.”
Individuals entering Morocco have faced fines of up to €50, approximately £42, for not printing their boarding passes prior to reaching the airport. Ryanair, competing with carriers such as easyJet, Jet2, TUI, among others, stressed that digital boarding passes would not be accepted in places including Turkey (apart from at Dalaman Airport) and Tirana in Albania.
Ryanair advised passengers to ensure their boarding passes are printed beforehand when departing these locations, stating: “We accept mobile boarding passes on flights from the majority of airports on our network,” clarifying the directive for customers.
The airline, led by Michael O’Leary’s airline warned: “However unfortunately some airports cannot accept mobile boarding passes yet. Customers traveling from these airports must check in online and print out a paper boarding pass for their flight(s).”, reports Birmingham Live.
In contrast, easyJet does not impose penalties or fees for printing boarding passes at the airport, so it is advisable to request a physical copy prior to departure. Conversely, Ryanair levies a fee of up to £20 for this service.
