We’ve all heard of carol singing by candlelight, but some magical venues in Bristol are taking it a step further and hosting dedicated candlelight concerts not only around the theme of Christmas, but in dedication to some of the biggest names in the world of music (and even TV and film).
The likes of The Mount Without, Bristol Cathedral, Church of All Saints, St Mary Redcliffe Church, and St James’ Priory, have a diary filled with candlelight concerts across November and December.
While many such events take place throughout the year, these will have an extra festive touch and, with the nights getting darker quicker, will only add to the atmosphere.
Candlelight: A Tribute to Adele
When: Saturday, November 23 (8.30-9.45pm)
Where: St Mary Redcliffe Church, 12 Colston Parade, Redcliffe
Immerse yourself in the emotional music of the London-born songstress, performed by a string quartet whilst surrounded by hundreds of candles. Setlist to include: Hello, Rumour Has It, Make You Feel My Love, Water Under the Bridge, Oh My God, Someone Like You, Send My Love (To Your New Lover), Chasing, Pavements, Skyfall, When We Were Young, Set Fire to the Rain, Easy On Me, Rolling in the Deep.

Candlelight: A Tribute to Taylor Swift
When: November 29, December 6 and December 20 (8.30-9.30pm)
Where: Church of All Saints, Pembroke Road, Clifton
Candlelight Concerts ‘bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical experience to awe-inspiring locations never before used for this purpose in Bristol’. The setlist is set to include: Lavender Haze, Love Story, Cardigan, Blank Space, Enchanted, Anti-Hero, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, All Too Well, Wildest Dreams, Lover, I Knew You Were Trouble, You Belong With Me.

Carols by Candlelight at St James’

Where: St James’ Priory, 1 Whitson Street
Exultate Singers will perform a programme of Christmas music in the beautiful setting of the medieval church of St James Priory, the perfect preparation for the festive season. Ticket prices are as follows:
- Central nave – £22 for adults, £11 students in full time education, £5 under 18s (aged 8+)
- South Aisle (restricted visibility) – £16 for adults, £8 students in full time education, £4 under 18s (aged 8+)

Carols by Candlelight at Bristol Cathedral
When: Friday, December 13 (7.30-9.15pm)
Where: Bristol Cathedral, College Green
Described as ‘an unmissable festive treat’, the Cathedral Choir sings music old and new with opportunities to join in with singing traditional carols in the stunning candle-lit surroundings of Bristol Cathedral. Enjoy seasonal readings read throughout the evening by John Telfer, from BBC Radio 4 The Archers. Fun for all the family.
A bar will be available inside the Cathedral selling a range of drinks alcoholic and soft drinks to purchase before the concert and during the interval. We operate a Challenge 25 policy so bring ID. Tickets range from £12-£32.
