Halton Regional Police say two people have been arrested following a violent home invasion early Thursday morning in Oakville.

Police say officers were called at about 2:25 a.m. after several suspects broke into a home on Bellwood Ave. by forcing open the front door.

According to police, the suspects confronted a male resident in a bedroom and demanded cash. The victim was hit in the head, face, and upper body.

The suspects then stole a Mercedes sedan in the driveway and fled, cops said.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Thursday afternoon, police said two suspects were arrested in Toronto and officers recovered the stolen vehicle.

Jayden Batiste, 18, of Vaughan, and Dyante Johnson, 18, of Brampton, were each charged with aggravated assault, robbery, break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, escape lawful custody, theft of motor vehicle, disguise with intent, fraudulent use of a credit card, and fail to comply with a release order.

Both were held in custody ahead of a bail hearing.

“Breaking into a residence at 2 a.m., violently assaulting a sleeping resident while he lays in his bed, all in an effort to steal his car. Incomprehensible,” said Supt. Dave Costantini.

“Two offenders arrested while occupying the victim’s stolen car, facing charges for previous offences,” he added. “Unconscionable. Our officers will continue to relentlessly pursue all those who threaten the safety and security of our residents.”
