A schoolboy has been taken to hospital after being struck by a car in north Belfast.

The incident occurred in the Ballysillan Road area on Friday morning.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said the boy is “believed to be 12-years-old” and was struck by a car close to the leisure centre.

“He has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which, at this stage, are not thought to be life threatening,” said the PSNI.

“Police are asking witnesses and those who may have captured dashcam or other footage to get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference 261 08/11/24.”

A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it received a 999 call at 7.58am on Friday following reports of the incident.

“NIAS despatched one emergency ambulance and one advanced paramedic to the incident,” said the NIAS.

“Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children by ambulance.”
